Township residents can now follow Franklin police on Facebook and Twitter.
The department established presences on these social media sites on May 14, according to a press release.
Police Chief Lawrence Roberts believes that this will allow the police to have better interface with the community,” according to the release.
“Through the use of social media tools, we will be able to interact with the community in a way never before possible,” Roberts said in the release. “These tools will allow us to provide the community with more information in a very short period of time.”
The social media pages will be used in conjunction with the township’s Web site and the Nixle system to keep residents informed during emergencies, according to the release. The pages will not be monitored 24 hours a day, and should not be used to report emergencies.
“If you have an emergency call 9-1-1,” Roberts said in the release. “All other non-emergent situations that require a police response should be reported through our non-emergency line, (732) 873-2300.”
