Patriots Win 9-5 Over Revolution

maaay24FINALYork, PA – The Somerset Patriots (21-8) defeated the York Revolution (10-19) 9-5 Sunday evening from Santander Stadium. With the victory Somerset won its fifth straight series.

 

In the bottom of the first inning second baseman Eric Patterson recorded a RBI groundout to give York a 1-0 advantage.

 

York plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning to expand their lead to 3-0. Catcher Luis De La Cruz and right fielder Willie Cabrera each socked RBI doubles.

 

In the top of the third inning Somerset sent 12 batters to the plate and scored seven runs on five hits while taking advantage of four Revolution errors to grab a 7-3 lead. First baseman Thomas Neal smashed a two RBI double, left fielder Chris Marrero pounded a RBI double and designated hitter Mat Gamel tallied a RBI single. Second baseman Nate Spears would poke a RBI single while catcher Adam Donachie and shortstop Scott Kelly each recorded RBI groundouts.

 

Center fielder Shannon Wilkerson sliced a RBI double to cut the deficit to 7-4 in the ensuing half inning.

 

For the second time in as many days Gamel blasted a home run (2) as his two run shot gave Somerset a 9-4 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning.

 

Left fielder Brandon Boggs slapped a RBI single to cut the deficit to 9-5 in the ensuing half inning.

 

David Harden earned the win (2-1) in relief tossing four scoreless innings. Shawn Hill suffered the loss (1-3) as he lasted four innings while surrendering nine runs although just five were earned.
