The Township Council on Sept. 23 honored resident Bill Grippo for his fundraising efforts for the annual July 4 celebration.
Grippo, a former township councilman and current MacAfee School principal, has been raising money for the annual event steadily since 1020.
“If you’ve enjoyed the 4th of July since 2010, that’s Bill Grippo,” Councilman Carl R.A. Wright (D-Ward 4) said before reading a council proclamation.
Although the event was delayed a week by rain, “this year we had one of the biggest turnouts ever,” Grippo.
Grippo thanked the many township employees and corporate donors who helped him in his effort.
“This would not have happened without our donors,” he said.
Gripo noted that many other towns have abandoned their July 4 celebrations because of cost.
“When we gather, we represent the cultural diversity that makes our country great,” he said.
