A phoned-in bomb threat to Franklin High School the afternoon of Jan. 23 resulted in the school being evacuated, but no bomb being found.
The threat was phoned in to the school at about 12:45 p.m., according to a press release from the Franklin Township Police Department. Patrol officers and detectives responded, and after an initial “shelter in place” order was issued, the decision to evacuate the school was made at about 1:35 p.m.
Students were taken to the football field until they were dismissed.
K-9 units from the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, New Brunswick Police, New Jersey State Police, Morris County Sheriff’s Office and Hudson County Sheriff’s Office responded and swept the building, according to the release.
Students were told that they cold return to the school between 5 and 7 p.m. to pick up any belongings they may have left behind during the evacuation.
Police are investigating the origin of the call, according to the release.
