Bridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots have announced the signing of former Seattle Mariners outfielder Trayvon Robinson.
“I am excited. I heard from a lot of people that Somerset is the place to be. From the facility, the fans, and the entire organization, it’s a real family atmosphere. As I’m trying to make it back to the big leagues, Somerset sounds like the best route for me and hands down a great place to play,” said Robinson.
Robinson enters his first season with the Somerset Patriots and first in the Atlantic League. He boasts two seasons of service at the Major League level, both with the Mariners, in 2011 and 2012. Over those two seasons, Robinson hit five home runs with 26 RBI, 16 doubles, 28 runs scored and seven stolen bases in 90 games.
After the 2012 season, Robinson was traded from the Mariners to the Baltimore Orioles for Robert Andino, a member of the 2015 Atlantic League Champion Somerset Patriots.
The Los Angeles, California native has spent the last three seasons playing at the Triple-A level for the Baltimore Orioles, Los Angeles Dodgers, Detroit Tigers and Arizona Diamondbacks organizations, respectively. Last year, Robinson hit three home runs with 18 RBI and 12 stolen bases between time with Triple-A Toledo (Detroit) and Triple-A Reno (Arizona).
“Trayvon is a true talent. He is a very special outfielder who will help our pitchers out by covering a lot of ground,” manager Brett Jodie said. “He will be an exciting presence at the top of our lineup, put pressure on the opposition with his base-running and will be great for our clubhouse. We are thrilled to have Trayvon join the team.”
Robinson has stolen at least 20 bases in five different seasons, including a 47-steal campaign in 2009 between High-A Inland Empire and Double-A Chattanooga in the Dodgers organization.
Additionally, he showed off his power in 2011 with 26 home runs and 71 RBI for Triple-A Albuquerque (Dodgers) before he was traded to the Mariners in a three-team deal including starting pitcher Erik Bedard.
The 2005 10th round draft pick by the Dodgers owns a .270 career batting average over 11 seasons in the minors with 93 home runs, 435 RBI and 213 stolen bases.
The Somerset Patriots won their Atlantic League leading sixth championship during the 2015 season.
