The November 29 gathering of a group of Franklin High School alumni from varying years at the Delta by Marriott Hotel on Davidson Avenue was more than just a get-together; there was a serious purpose behind it.
The get-together was part of the annual “I Love Franklin” observance started four years ago by the Warriors 4 Life Scholarship Foundation, formed seven years ago by Nicholas and Rebekah Solomon and Daryn and Adrian Plummer, all Franklin High School alums.
The point of the reunion was to draw attention to a local business, the hotel, that FHS alumni might not otherwise be exposed to.
That’s the inspiration behind the entire week-long “I Love Franklin” program, to bring exposure to Franklin business, according to Rebekah Solomon, Class of 1999 and the current principal at Franklin Park Elementary School.
Alumni were encouraged to visit a local business – such as Momentum Advisors, Venus Jewelers, and Performance Rehabilitation – each day of the observance, she said.
“I Love Franklin Week was created really when Warriors 4 Life was created to just love on Franklin Township,” she said. “We don’t want anything from Franklin Township except to patronize businesses during this week and really help all the businesses that give so freely to Warriors for Life all year long.”
“We invited all classes that may be here because they had Thanksgiving at their mom or dad’s just to come over the next night if they’re still in town and have a drink, you know, give a hug to a friend they haven’t seen in 20 years and just fraternize and hang out,” Solomon said.
The observance lasts through December 3, Giving Tuesday, Solomon said, when alumni are asked to donate to Warriors 4 Life.
Another reason for the get-together: “We miss our Thanksgiving Day game,” said Adrian Plummer, Class of 2000.
