The 27th annual Tour de Franklin is set for April 24, with the tour moving to a new location.
The tour, which is the Franklin Township Food Bank’s largest fund raiser, will this year start from Franklin High School, 500 Elizabeth Avenue.
The change in venue from the township community center on DeMott Lane is due to the increase in riders over the years, according to a press release on the event.
The ride started 27 years ago when 30 riders raised $1,500 and has progressed to the point where, in 2015, more than 660 riders raised more than $60,000, according to the release.
Seen rides are offered, the 62-mile, 40-mile, 25-mile, 10-mile, 1-to-5-mile walk or ride, and a 5-mile and 10-mile ride along Somerset’s scenic canal.
Demand for the Food bank’s services has grown by about 10 percent each year since 2007, with nearly 12,000 food packages delivered to families in 2015, according to the release. The $60,000 raised in 2015 represented about 10 percent of the Food Bank’s total budget, according to the release.
