Members of the Quail Brook Senior Center got a taste of Korean culture July 7 with the visit of a traditional dance team.
The presentation by the Arirang Dance Team was cut short by technical problems, but the dancers did get to perform two dances.
Led by Edison resident Jane Huh, the team performed a traditional fan dance and a dance to “Arirang,” a song that Huh said dates back 5,000 years.
Huh said she has been dancing since she was 6 years old.
“That’s more than 60 years now,” she said, laughing.
She said the team practices in a Korean community center and performs at all sorts of occasions.
The fans they use are made of traditional materials, she said, including bamboo sticks and chicken feathers.
After the performance, members of the team answered questions from their audience, and then had lunch.
