Two township Girl Scouts turned their love for animals into a project benefitting the Franklin Township Animal Shelter. The girls, Anji Centolanza and Kayla Lancaster, built an outdoor display cabinet that was mounted on the shelter’s exterior front wall Sept. 25.

Children whose mothers are clients of the Center for Great Expectations were recently the beneficiaries of a Manchester woman’s hobby. The children on Sept. 22 received a delivery of 10 hand-made knitted stuffed animals and dolls made by Joyce Cunliffe, a retiree who said she picked up the craft to keep her mind busy after she retired.

The second annual Franklin Day Festival on Sept. 19 offered something for just about everyone: food, music, performances and a wide variety of vendors. Thousands of visitors wound their way among the more than 100 booths set up near Colonial Park’s Parking Lot C. Two township women who volunteer to teach cooking and nutrition skills to special needs adults have been named “Cabot Community Celebrities” by the Cabot Creamery Cooperative. The women, Becky Bongiovi of Somerset and Karen Bryant, of Franklin Park, will join 57 other “community celebrities” in November on a Eastern Caribbean cruise provided by the cooperative.
