A Clinton Street family was burned out of their home the night of Nov. 10 by what fire officials are calling an electrical fire. Police received a 9-1-1 call reporting a fire shortly after 11 p.m., according to a press release on the fire.

A Nov. 8 fire at a township business which was caused by pressurized gas was quickly extinguished by township firefighters. A release from township police said that police were notified of a fire alarm at 2:31 p.m. at Veeco on Elizabeth Avenue. The information was that there was a chemical fire in building, according to the release.

A morning fire in a Route 27 auto repair shop has closed part of the state highway and sent the shop’s owner to the hospital. The 68-year-old owner of Classic Motors, Franklin Park – who police did not name – was taken to an area hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation, police said.

A six-vehicle crash on Oct. 29 closed part of Easton Avenue for two hours and sent one person to the hospital, police said. The crash,which happened during the morning rush hour, involved a tractor-trailer, police said.

Packages left on stoops and porches were stolen from a number of homes in the township on Oct. 21 and 22. On Oct. 21, An Amethyst Way resident reported that a package containing goods worth $195 was stolen from their front door.

More than $10,000 in cash and jewelry was stolen from a Holland Drive home on Oct. 13. Police said the home’s owner told them he left at 8 a.m. and returned at 7:30 p.m. to find the items missing.

[wpgmappity id=”20″] Township police are looking for five men who assaulted an Eden Street resident after stealing his two recreational vehicles. Searches for the men on Oct. 10 and 11 by township police and the State Police Aviation Bureau were unsuccessful.

Three people – including a township woman – face drug-related charges after a package delivered to a township home was found to contain about $500,000 worth of cocaine. One of the defendants also faces eluding charges after he allegedly led police on a short car chase, ending after a prosecutor’s office vehicle was struck on Park Street.

Sept. 22 Jeffrey Corcoran of Helmetta was cited for careless driving after his car rear-ended one driven by Kevin Wyre of Plainfield on Route 27.  Corcoran said Wyre stopped suddenly, and he could not stop in time. Wyre said he had stopped for a pedestrian.

A township man who in July pleaded guilty to several gun- and theft-related charges was sentenced Sept. 4 to five years in state prison.
