Bridgeport, CT – The Bridgeport Bluefish (16-26) defeated the Somerset Patriots (25-16) 5-1 Friday evening from Harbor Yard. This was the series opener of a four game wrap around weekend set.
In the bottom of the first inning right fielder Denny Almonte slugged a solo home run (3) to give the Bluefish an early 1-0 advantage.
Left fielder Joe Mather pounded a three run home run (1) in the bottom of the third inning to expand Bridgeport’s lead to 4-0.
Bridgeport added a run in the bottom of the fourth inning to expand its lead to 5-0 as center fielder James Simmons tallied a RBI double.
Somerset plated a run in the top of the fifth inning as catcher Damaso Espino blooped a RBI single cutting the deficit to 5-1 which would ultimately be the final score.
Kanekoa Texeira (3-1) earned the run tossing six innings and allowing just one run. Matt Langwell (2-4) suffered the lost hurling five innings while surrendering five runs.
