The Somerset Patriots have announced the re-signing of right-handed pitcher Erik Arnesen. Arnesen finished the 2013 season with a 13-4 record, a 3.18 ERA, and 103 strikeouts in 149.2 innings pitched in 22 games started.

A Franklin Greens apartment resident reported March 1 that someone stole a metal table from their patio. Police said the apartment is located on the first floor of building facing John F. Kennedy Boulevard.

Feb. 28 Mitalben Modi of Somerset was driving down Easton Avenue, past Culver Street, she told police, when she had a coughing fit, causing her car to rear-end an auto driven by Manas Das, also of Somerset.

They fought until the end, but the Franklin High School girls’ basketball team lost an overtime heartbreaker in the March 1 Somerset County championships to Gill St. Bernard’s, 55-51. Gill got off to a quick 4-0 lead, but the Lady Warriors fought back, tying the game at 4 with about 4 minutes left in the first quarter.

The Franklin High School boys’ bowling team came up short in its quest for a title in the Group III state championships Feb. 27 at Carolier Lanes, North Brunswick, coming in second to Montville High School. Just getting to the state finals was a victory, coach Ken Margolin said.

A 7-year-old township child is being treated at St. Barnabas Burn Center after sustaining 2nd degree burns over 30 percent of his body, police said. Police responded to a 9-1-1 call at about 4:42 p.m. to find that the boy had accidentally pulled a pot of boiling water onto himself.

Students at MacAfee Road School on Feb. 28 celebrated Black History and Women’s History month with a “Living Museum” program. During the half-hour presentation, students in the Kindergarten to 4th Grade school portrayed luminaries raging from Ameila Earhart to Boker T. Washington.

A January incident in which a 3-year-old was left on a Franklin Park School bus all day was deemed by a state agency to not be a case of child abuse or neglect, but rather one of “miscommunication.” But the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office and township police are still reviewing the matter for possible criminal charges.
