Actor and author Hill Harper will be the keynote speaker for the “Arts in the Afternoon” program presented at 1 p.m. April 13 at the First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens, 771 Somerset St. in Somerset.
Hill will do a book signing of his latest release, “Letters to an Incarcerated Brother” during the program, which is sponsored by the church’s FBCLG Scholarship Ministry.
“Hill Harper is one of the rare celebrities that leverages his commercial success for the betterment of others,” said the Rev. Dr. DeForest B. Soaries, Jr., Senior Pastor of FBCLG, in a release about the event. “We are thrilled to have him return to First Baptist to advance the cause of education for our youth.”
Harper is an award-winning actor, New York Times best-selling author and philanthropist, the release said. Harper created the Manifest Your Destiny Foundation to provide greater opportunities through mentoring and academic enhancement programming.
Admission is $35.
The Scholarship Ministry at FBCLG originated in 1964 with the intention to provide financial support to youth who desire to attend an institution of higher learning after high school. “Arts in the Afternoon,” was created to help raise scholarship money in effort to support the mission of the ministry, according to the release. The annual event consists of music, dancing, art and poetry along with a special keynote speaker.
