More than 50 trees were scheduled April 5 to be picked up by residents during the township Shade Tree Commission’s annual sale.

The trees were available at the township’s Convenience Center at Berry and School streets. Commission chairman Chris Williams and member Bob Hudak were on hand to distribute the trees.

Residents were able to purchase the trees late last year, Williams said. The trees were ordered from a Minnesota nursery, he said.

This year the tree selections were Red Bud, Magnolia Maple and Zelkolva. The commission ordered 20 of each, Williams said.

He said whatever is not sold is planted at various spots around the township.

“We always order more than we need,” he said. “We get them at a discount when we buy this many.”

Williams said the commission buys the trees “bare-rooted” rather than balled “because they’re easier to handle and they do better.”
