York, Penn. – An eight-run first inning led the York Revolution (25-19, 53-61) to an 11-2 victory over the Somerset Patriots (20-23, 62-51) in Monday’s series-opener at PeoplesBank Park.
The eight-run first inning for the Revolution was highlighted by a Telvin Nash sacrifice fly, Luis Cruz two-out RBI single and two separate two-out, three-run home runs from Dayron Varona (2) and Alonzo Harris (18).
Somerset responded with a two-out RBI double from Aharon Eggleston in the second, but a two-out RBI single from Varona in the second and an RBI double from Alexi Casilla in the third increased York’s lead to 10-1. A two-out RBI double from Greg Golson in the next half inning brought the Patriots back within eight runs.
Both teams exchanged zeroes through the rest of the game until Nash (8) sent a solo home run over the Arch Nemesis in left field in the bottom of the eighth to top off the scoring.
Victor Mateo (6-7) earned the win after he allowed two runs over five innings. Patrick Johnson (0-1) yielded nine runs (eight earned) on seven hits over one and two-thirds innings to take the loss.
