More than 50 pounds of excess Halloween candy was collected earlier this month from area children by a Somerset dentist.

The candy is bound for American troops serving overseas.

Dr. Joseph Haddad of Advanced Dental Arts, 738 Easton Ave., paid $5 per pound for the candy, he said in a release about the event.
