Update: Deshawn Carreker turned himself in to a Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office detective on July 13, according to authorities. Carreker was remanded to the Somerset County Jail, Somerville, in lieu of $150,000 cash bail.

Original Story: A 20-year-old township man has been arrested in connection with the June 24 assault and robbery of a man at Country Side apartments.

Police are still looking for the man’s alleged accomplice, and consider him to be armed and dangerous, according to a press release from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.

Police said Divendra Bihm of Somerset had arranged to meet with the 35-year-old victim at the apartment complex so that Bihm could sell the man marijuana.

Once there, the victim told police, he was set upon by Bihm and two accomplices, who, he said, beat and robbed him.

The victim, who was not named, was taken to an area hospital for surgery to treat his injuries, according to the release.

During the investigation, township and Somerset County Major Crime Squad detectives found that Bihm drove 22-year-old Dashawn Carreker of New Brunswick and a third man known as “Tyrell” to the apartment complex for the marijuana sale.

Police said that while the victim was on the ground, Carreker punched and kicked him while “Tyrell” hit him in the head with a hand gun.

Bhim and Carreker have each been charged with 1st Degree Robbery, 2nd Degree Conspiracy, 2nd Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and 2nd Degree Aggravated Assault, according to the release.

Authorities are still searching for Carrecker, who is considered to be armed and dangerous.

Bihm was remanded to Somerset County Jail, Somerville, on $100,000 cash bail.

Crime Stoppers of Somerset County, Inc. is offering a reward of up to $1,500 for information regarding defendant Carreker’s location and arrest, according to the release.

Anyone with information regarding this incident or knows of Carreker’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Somerset County Crime Stoppers’ Tip Line at (888) 577-TIPS (8477) or online at www.888577tips.org or www.scpo.net and click on either “Crime Stoppers” or “TIPS HOTLINE.” All calls are confidential.
