Tyler Bortnick Helps Lead Patriots To 7-2 Win Over The Ducks
Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots (31-20) defeated the Long Island Ducks (26-25) 7-2 at TD Bank Ballpark on Tuesday night.
The Ducks took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a solo home run by Angelo Songco (12).
Somerset answered in the bottom of the frame with two runs of their own on a Tyler Bortnick two-run single to claim the lead.
“I was looking for something to drive early. I knew that he had that cutter and slider,” said Bortnick. “I thought that if he gives me a fastball, I’m going to jump on it early. He gave me something I could handle and I put a good swing on it.”
The Patriots added a run in the third inning before breaking the game open with four more runs in the fourth inning. RBI base hits by Bortnick and Adam Donachie, along with a two-run single by Carlos Guzman, gave Somerset a 7-1 advantage. Bortnick finished the game 2-for-4 with a run scored and three RBI.
“I was lucky enough to put some good swings on the ball, got good pitches to hit and my teammates got on base for me. If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t have had the game that I did,” Bortnick added.
Songco hit his second home run (13) of the game in the top of the seventh for the 7-2 final.
Rick Teasley (5-1) picked up the win, allowing two earned runs on five hits in seven innings pitched. Rafael Perez (4-2) suffered the loss, allowing seven runs (five earned) on nine hits in 3.2 innings pitched.
