Township Hosts First PJ Cavanaugh’s In New Jersey
Philadelphia-based PJ Cavanaugh’s chose St. Patrick’s Day to hold the grand opening of its township pub, located in the Holiday Inn on Davidson Avenue.
Irish dancers, pipers and a St. Patty’s Day buffet were the highlights of the day for the resellers, who were given green beads and hats for the ocassion.
Also on hand were representatives from the Franklin Township Chamber of Commerce, including chamber president Michael Harris, who presented Bruce Waugh, the restaurant’s general manager, with a plaque.
Waugh said the 83-year-old family owned chain decided to branch out from its Pennsylvania home because “we’re trying to change and grow a little bit.”
In addition to being the first Garden State location, this is the first PJ Cavanaugh’s that is not a freestanding restaurant, Waugh said.
“We met the fellows who own the hotel and saw an opportunity here with what’s available in the area ad thought this might be the spot for us,” he said.
Waugh said another reason the company wanted to open in a restaurant is “to branch out into the catering side.” Cavanaugh’s will handle the hotel services and do catering, he said.
“People have always thought our food was excellent, so we saw an opportunity to branch out into the catering world,” he said.
PJ Cavanaugh’s is open seven days a week and starts serving at 6 a.m., Waugh said.
