Girl Scouts from two township-based troops recently volunteered their time to rake the yard of an elderly township couple.

In conjunction with the Somerset County Office of Volunteering, scouts from 60167 Juniors and Cadette Troop 60777 spent about an hour raking the yard, said Fran Breunig, co-leader of Troop 60777.

“Our troop does all types of community service that helps others,” said Charlotte Breunig, a member of Troop 60777. “This one is special because we are helping our elderly neighbors.”

Volunteering her time “made me happy …. because I was helping someone and raking his lawn, and it made me feel like I could do anything,” said Maggie Harding, a member of Troop 60167.

Participating from Troop 60167 were troop Co Leaders Jenifer Harding and Joann Mount, and members Molly Eriksen, Emilie Eriksen, Cassidy Mount, Danielle Vasquez and Maggie Harding, and from Troop 60777, Charlotte Breunig, Alex Kachurick and Tara Lyons.
