Township Council Set To Censure Councilman Prasad For ‘Dishonoring’ His Position
A vote to censure Township Councilman Rajiv Prasad is scheduled for the council’s Dec. 11 meeting.
The agenda item, called an “add-on,” was added to the agenda on Dec. 10. Township Democrats regularly caucus on the Sunday before a council meeting.
Prasad (D-At Large) has been courting controversy for the past three years, the most recent with the revelation that he apparently tried to get Township Manager Robert Vornlocker to fix four parking tickets received by parishioners of Bethel United African Church, and the church itself, in East Millstone.
Prasad, according to the resolution, “has engaged in multiple actions in his official capacity as an elected official that are improper for a person in his position,” and has “lost the trust of many residents and the governing body of Franklin Township.”
The Mayor and Council, the resolution states, “find these actions dishonor the important position in which he has been entrusted.”
“Now, therefore, be it resolved the Mayor and Council of the Township of Franklin, County of Somerset, in the State of New Jersey do hereby admonish him in the strongest of terms by censuring Mr. Rajiv Prasad Councilman, At-Large for the multiple improper actions he has taken,” the resolution states.
Prasad has not yet responded to a request for comment. If he does, the story will be updated.
