Township Council Extends Farmland Leases

Two leases with township farmers were extended Feb. 24 by the Township Council.

The council voted to approve the second of two one-year extensions to Albert Puchalek for Catalpa Farm on Old Vliet Road. The farmland consists of 50 acres, with a fee of $51.25 per acre, or $2,562.50 for the year.

The council and Puchalek originally entered into a 3-year contract in 2011.

The council also approved the extension of leases with Lawrence Terhune for a total of 225 acres in several locations.

Terhune will pay $28 per acre for 135 acres of farmland on three Canal Road parcels, two Butler Road parcels and one Suydam Road parcel, for a total of $3,780.

Terhune will pay $40 per acre for 90 acres on parcels on Canal Road and Jacques Lane, for a total of $3,600.
