Township Council Awards More Than $1.1 Million In Road Work Contracts

Contracts for more than $1 million worth of road improvements were awarded at the July 8 Township Council meeting.

The funding for the projects is included in the current budget.

Schifano Construction of Middlesex was awarded a $425,673 contract for the resurfacing of Smithowld, Layne, Tunnel and Tamarakc roads and Hadler Drive.

Six bids were submitted for the contract, according to a memo from township engineer Carl Hauck. The next lowest bid was $425,697, he said in the memo.

Schifabno was also awarded a $468,291 contract to resurface Memorial, Executive and Franklin Square drives; Louis, Lafayette and Sanders avenues; Marcy and Pierce (Belmont to Pierce) streets and Queens Place.

Schifano was also one of six bidders competing for that job, according to a Hauck memo.

Z Brothers COncrete Contractors of Sayreville was awarded a $226,568 contract for resurfacing John F. Kennedy Boulevard from Webster to Renfro roads.

Four other contractors bid on that job according to a Hauck memo.

The total for all three jobs is $1,120,532.
