Texas Man Takes Dip in Hotel Pond – In His Car

pond-accidentA Texas man on Nov. 24 took an early morning dip in the pond in front of the DoubleTree Hotel on Atrium Drive.

The problem was that he was in his car when he did it.

Police said that Wayne Schertz, 54, of Carlton, Texas, was driving his rented Cadillac down Atrium Drive around 2 a.m. when he lost control of the vehicle, left the road and plunged into the pond.

Schertz then exited the car and the pond and wandered away, police said. He was later found by an EMS squad from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and taken to Somerset Medical Center, Somerville, on a complaint of being “very cold.”

Schertz could not explain how his car ended up in the pond, police said.

Police said Schertz lost control of the car because he was driving too fast and could not navigate a curve in the road.

Police noted that there were no tire marks at the scene.

Schertz was cited for careless driving and leaving the scene of an accident, police said.
