A 22-year-old South Brunswick man stands charged with 2nd Degree Robbery after he allegedly punched a 70-year-old man and stole his gold chain in Franklin Park.

The victim, a Monmouth Junction resident, was in a Route 27 strip mall parking lot May 18 when he was approached by a man who struck up a conversation with him, according to a press release from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office. The man then demanded the victim’s gold neck chain, and punched him in the face when he refused.

The assailant then snatched the chain off the victim’s neck and headed south down Rt. 27, according to the release.

Review of footage from a nearby surveillance camera led Franklin Township police to identify Dain Smith as the assailant, according to the press release.

Smith was seen by Franklin Township police on May 19 walking down Delar Parkway in Franklin Park, where he was arrested, according to the release.
