Somerset Patriots Re-Sign 1B Kyle Roller
Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots have announced the re-signing of first baseman Kyle Roller.
Roller enters his second season with the Somerset Patriots and in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Previously, he spent the first six seasons of his career with the New York Yankees organization before playing the first half of 2016 with the Tampa Bay Rays organization.
Roller was signed in July of last year, playing in 52 games with the Somerset Patriots. Over that stretch, he hit for a .284 batting average with 10 home runs and 40 RBI. Roller reached base at a .401 clip while serving as the Patriots primary first baseman/designated hitter.
The former East Carolina University standout was originally drafted by the Yankees in the 8th round of the 2010 MLB June Amateur Draft. Roller worked his way up through the minor leagues, ultimately playing three straight seasons at the Triple-A level, including the beginning of the 2016 season with the Durham Bulls.
In 2014 for Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre, Roller hit 17 home runs and drove in 51 runs in 104 games. In two seasons with the Railriders, Roller hit 31 home runs with 110 RBI.
Over his seven year career, Roller holds a .266 career batting average with 111 home runs and 427 runs batted in 772 career games.
Roller will be activated Friday for the series against the Bridgeport Bluefish.
