Somerset Patriots Bolster Pitching Staff With Re-Signings
Bridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots have announced the re-signings of right-handed pitchers Josh Lowey, Jason Lowey, and David Harden.
Josh Lowey led the Patriots in wins last year, finishing with a 14-8 record, a 2.89 ERA, and 124 strikeouts in 155.2 innings pitched in 26 games. He was among the league leaders for pitching all season. He was named to Baseball America’s Independent League All-Star Team last year.
Josh Lowey has six seasons of independent minor league baseball experience in the Atlantic League, Frontier League and the American Association. He spent 2012 in Wichita where he finished with a 15-4 record, a 3.57 ERA, and 96 strikeouts in 133.2 innings pitched in 23 games.
Josh Lowey has a minor league career 58-21 record, a 3.18 ERA, and 519 strikeouts in 639 innings pitched in 118 games played.
“Josh is a big game pitcher. He always seemed to get the job done in key situations last year. He is a proven winner that will be extremely valuable to our 2014 rotation. He led our league in ERA among qualifiers in 2013 and we look for him to pick up where he left off and continue to help our team win games,” said Brett Jodie, manager of the Somerset Patriots Baseball Club.
Jason Lowey was 7-4 for Somerset last season and had a 1.76 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 51 innings pitched in 55 games. He was named an Atlantic League All-Star for his 2013 performance.
Jason Lowey spent 2010 and 2011 at the Single-A level for the Atlanta Braves organization. Prior to signing with the Braves, Jason Lowey pitched in the independent Frontier League.
Jason Lowey had back-to-back 20 plus saves seasons for River City in 2009 and 2010.
He has a minor league career 16-12 record with a 2.80 ERA, 55 saves, and 291 strikeouts in 231.2 innings pitched in 192 games.
“Jason has proven to be an extremely solid force in our bullpen. He thrives in pressure situations while still maintaining a great demeanor of total control on the mound. He has a power arm, but also possesses great off speed pitches,” Jodie said.
Both Lowey brothers received Atlantic League Second Team honors last season.
Harden finished the 2013 season with a 10-2 record, a 3.39 ERA, and 63 strikeouts in 101 innings pitched in 20 games.
Harden spent the 2011 and 2012 seasons in the Frontier League with Southern Illinois. In 2012, he had a 10-5 record, a 3.05 ERA, and 78 strikeouts in 135.2 innings pitched in 19 games all as a starter.
Harden has a minor league career 27-12 record, a 3.10 ERA, and 208 strikeouts in 357.1 innings pitched in 58 games.
“David was huge for us during the 2013 campaign. He has value both out of the pen and as a starter. David is a strike thrower that works fast and the defense loves to play behind him. He has great mound presence and is also very well liked off the field,” said Jodie.
