Somerset Man Caught In Drug Bust After Police Tipped Off

A 21-year-old Somerset man remains in custody in Somerset County Jail, Somerville, after he was arrested on drug-related charges.

Tobias G. Vestal of Townsend Court was charged with 3rd Degree Possession of a CDS with Intent to Distribute and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a Disorderly Persons offense, after police said they found 4 ounces of marijuana in his pockets.

Vestal was placed under surveillance after police received a tip that he would “be in possession of a quantity of marijuana,” according to a press release from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.

Police approached Vestal when he entered his silver Infiniti G37x at about 6:15 p.m. and asked him to exit the car, according to the release. As he was leaving his car, police saw plastic bags of what they suspected was marijuana in his sweat pants pockets, according to the release.

Police said Vestal gave them permission to search his condo, which search turned up an additional 12 ounces of marijuana, a digital scale and $12,320 in cash.

Police said the marijuana has an estimated street value of $5,000.
