Skeeters Win 7-3 Over Patriots

71114recapBridgewater, NJ- The Sugar Land Skeeters defeated the Somerset Patriots 7-3 before 6,808 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Friday evening.

 

The Skeeters took a 1-0 lead in the second on a solo home run by Nick Stavinoha (10).

 

The Patriots tied up the game in the bottom of the third when Jonny Tucker’s base running on a Ty Wright RBI groundout allowed him to score from second.

 

The Skeeters took the lead in the seventh on Dominic Ramos’ two run double followed by an RBI double by Michael Rockett for a 4-1 lead.

 

Sugar Land added three more runs in the top of the eighth on an RBI double by Stavinoha and a two-run double by Chase Lambin that made the score 7-1.

 

Somerset cut the lead to 7-3 with two runs on a Cory Harrilchak single in the bottom of the ninth inning.

 

Skeeters starter Steve Hammond (6-5) picked up the win, allowing a run on four hits in six innings pitched. Patriots starter Derell McCall (4-3) suffered the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits in 6.2 innings pitched. Gary Majewski came in to earn his 14th save of the season.

 

The 2014 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Saturday night with a 7:05 pm game against the Sugar Land Skeeters.
