Skeeters Take Series-Finale In Walk-Off Fashion

Sugar Land, Texas- The Somerset Patriots (21-16, 56-44) dropped Thursday night’s series-finale in 3-2 in extras to the Sugar Land Skeeters (25-11, 66-33) at Constellation Field.

The Skeeters jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a Juan Silverio RBI groundout. The Patriots immediately answered in the top of the second on a pair of solo home runs from Justin Trapp (6) and Nate Coronado (5). It marked the first time this year that the Patriots hit two home runs in the same inning and it provided a 2-1 lead.

The game remained at a 2-1 difference until the bottom of the eighth inning. Duane Below tossed six-straight scoreless frames and finished his night after the seventh, having allowed just one run on six hits, no walks and three strikeouts.

Sugar Land tied up the game with an unearned run in the eighth on an RBI double from Silverio down the third base line.

Despite a number of opportunities for the Patriots to take the lead in the ensuing innings, the game remained tied at 2-2 until Matt Chavez (11) ended the night with a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the 11th inning.

Kraig Sitton (3-0) earned the win with a scoreless inning of relief. Dustin Molleken (2-2) took the loss after he yielded a run over 1.0+ innings of work.

The 2018 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford continues on the road until Friday, August 17th when the Patriots return to TD Bank Ballpark for an 7:05 p.m. game against the York Revolution. The game includes a Drawstring Backpacks for the first 2,000 fans, presented by Applegate. For tickets, visit www.somersetpatriots.com.
