Six Run 5th Inning Leads Patriots To Shutout Win

Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots (11-2, 46-30) defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (5-6, 31-43) 6-0 at TD Bank Ballpark on Monday evening.

The Patriots broke open a scoreless game with six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Yovan Gonzalez got the scoring started with an RBI double and came home on a two-run single by Mike Fransoso. Craig Massey’s RBI single, Ramon Flores’ RBI double, and Alfredo Rodriguez’s RBI single put the Patriots up 6-0.

“We had that good inning and everybody got together,” said Gonzalez, who finished the game 2-for-2 with an RBI and a walk. “Everybody was on the attack. We were saying it’s now your turn and we all started seeing the ball better and got real aggressive.”

Kyle Davies (4-4) picked up the win with six scoreless innings pitched. Paul Clements (1-6) suffered the loss, allowing six earned runs on eight hits in 4.2 innings pitched.
