Franklin Park Man Killed In Crash On South Middlebush Road

A 47-year-old Franklin Park man was killed Nov. 12 when his car was struck by a garbage truck that had crossed the center line on South Middlebush Road.

William H. Herman was driving his 2014 Hyundai Elantra south on South Middlebush, exiting the curve after the the Amwell Road intersection, when his car was struck head-on by a truck driven northbound on South Middlebush by Jeffery A. Bailey, 52, of Plainfield, according to a press release from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.

Bailey, who was driving for Grand Sanitation Services of Scotch Plains, crossed the center yellow line, according to the release.

Herman was pronounced dead at the scene and had to be extricated from his car, according to the release.

Bailey was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital – New Brunswick for observation and a passenger – an unidentified male co-worker – was taken to St. Peter’s University Medical Center in New Brunswick for reported leg injuries, according to the release.

The accident closed a portion of South Middlebush Road for several hours while it was investigated by the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team and township police.

The investigation is ongoing, and there has been no word if any summonses have or will be issued.
