Scott Kelly’s Walk Off Single Leads Patriots To 11-Inning Win

Bridgewater, NJ-   The Somerset Patriots (33-21) defeated the York Revolution (21-34) 3-2 on Scott Kelly’s walk off single in the 11th inning before 7,219 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Friday night.

Tyler Bortnick led off the 11th inning with a single and Aharon Eggleston’s sacrifice bunt moved him to second and into scoring position. Kelly came up with two outs and laced a single to right field to plate Bortnick for the winning run.

“The opportunity came about and I was just trying to put a good swing on it and luckily the ball found a hole,” said Kelly. “It was an all-around great effort by everybody. We persevered.”

The Revolution took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning on a home run by Luis Cruz (2).

Somerset answered with a run in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Mark Minicozzi to tie up the game.

The Patriots took the lead on an RBI groundout by Carlos Guzman in the bottom of the seventh inning.

York tied up the ballgame in the top of the ninth inning on a Carlos Triunfel RBI double that forced extra innings.

Logan Darnell (3-1) picked up the win with two scoreless innings pitched. Luke Westphal (1-3) suffered the loss, allowing a run in 0.2 innings pitched.

The 2017 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Saturday, June 17th with a 7:05 pm game against the York Revolution. The game includes Fireworks presented by AT&T.  For tickets, visit www.somersetpatriots.com.
