Riversharks Rally Past Patriots 11-9

6715newsBridgewater, NJ – The Camden Riversharks (18-25) rallied past the Somerset Patriots (29-13) 11-9 Sunday afternoon at TD Bank Ballpark. The Riversharks erased a seven run deficit after six innings of play to snap their six game losing streak.

 

In the bottom of the first inning Somerset scored three times to grab a 3-0 advantage. Third baseman David Vidal ripped a two RBI single while shortstop Robert Andino drew a bases loaded walk.

 

The Patriots plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to expand their lead to 5-0. Designated hitter Mat Gamel and right fielder Greg Hopkins each pounded RBI singles.

 

Somerset added three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to make the score 8-0. A run scored via a throwing error by second baseman Norberto Susini and two more came across via a Hopkins two RBI single.

 

Right fielder Daniel Rockett cranked a home run (2) in the top of the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 8-1.

 

Camden sent 10 men to the plate in the top of the seventh inning and tallied six runs on six hits to dwindle the deficit to 8-7. Right fielder Carlos Guzman socked a home run (4) while Susini squibbed a RBI single. Pinch hitter Evan Crawford socked a two RBI double while Paddy Matera sliced a two RBI single.

 

Catcher Eddie Sorondo committed a throwing error that plated second baseman Scott Kelly as Somerset tallied a run in the bottom of the seventh making the contest 9-7.

 

Rockett clubbed his second home run (3) of the game with a blast to left field that cut the deficit in half at 9-8 in the top of the eighth inning.

 

The Patriots had been 17-0 when leading after eight innings but they surrendered three runs in the top of the ninth to relinquish the lead as Camden took its first lead of the afternoon at 11-9. First baseman Joel Guzman crushed a two RBI double while Carlos Guzman registered a RBI double for insurance.

 

Zach Braddock earned the win (2-1) in relief. Jon Hunton blew his third save of the year and suffered the loss (0-1). Matt Gorgen notched the save (10) pitching a scoreless final inning.
