Update: Police said the incident was not a threat, simply a parent who was not familiar with the school’s pick-up procedures trying to get their children. No children were threatened.

Original Story: Police are investigating an incident involving children that occurred Nov. 27 at Pine Grove Manor School, according to district officials.

According to a statement released on the school district’s web site on Nov. 28,  the dismissal a silver van approached the area where students were being dismissed and the people inside asked to pick up two students.

The school staff member, who was not identified, did not recognize the van and refused to release the children without authorization from the main office, according to the statement.

After some time, the van pulled away without the occupants reporting to the main office, and without the children, according to the statement.

It was not known whether the incident was “a family communication mixup or something more suspicious,” the statement read.

Parents were reminded to remind their children of the “stranger danger” rules, and the district staff involved in the incident were commended for “following dismissal protocols to ensure the safety of our students,” according to the statement.
