A 78-year-old woman suffering from dementia was found dead in her car in the Rutgers Plaza parking lot May 7, police said.

A Silver Alert had earlier that day been issued for the woman, Anita Cupo, who was last seen in South Bound Brook.

Township Police Sgt. Philip Rizzo said in an email that police received a 9-1-1 call stating that a woman was seen in her 2003 Chevy Trailblazer in the Easton Avenue lot and appeared to be unconscious and not breathing. Paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital arrived shortly after she was found by township police, Rizzo said.

He said Cupo was pronounced dead by the paramedics at 5:12 p.m.

Rizzo said there were no obvious signs of foul play or criminal activity.
