Police Log: Sept. 16-17, 2013

A Somerset woman escaped injury Sept. 16 after her car crashed through a residential fence and into a tree.

Autumn Benning told police that she was driving on John F. Kennedy Boulevard when a deer ran in front of her car. Benning said she swerved to avoid hitting the deer, lost control of her car and crashed through the fence at 8 Flower Road, eventually crashing into a tree.

Alberto Piedra-Hernandez of South Bound Brook received multiple summonses Sept. 16 after the car he was driving rear-ended another auto on Easton Avenue.

The other driver, Karina Victoria of South Bound Brook, said she was stopped near Walnut Avenue, waiting for a stopped bus, when her car was hit by Piedra-Hernandez’s.

Police said Piedra-Hernandez said that he tried to stop, but slid into the other car.

Police said Piedra-Hernandez was cited for driving with no license, careless driving and not showing a valid insurance card.

Pedro I. Fany of Perth Amboy was cited for careless driving Sept. 16 after he was involved in a three-car collision on Amwell Road, near Gary Court.

Fany told police that he was traveling in the left lane of Amwell and did not see a stopped car ahead of his, driven by  Rhaman R. Johnson of New Brunswick, until it was to late to avoid a crash. Fany said he swerved to the right, but still struck Johnson’s car on the side and then hit a bus driven in that lane by Velina Ortiz of New Brunswick.

Police said there were no other occupants on the bus.

Johnson was cited for driving while on the suspended list, police said.

Cars driven by Jessica M. Murray of Alpha and Iris J. Torres of Somerset collided Sept. 16 at the intersection of Hamilton and Berry streets. Torres told police that she was making a left turn from Berry to Hamilton when the accident occurred. She said her view of Hamilton was blocked by a stopped bus, and she did not see that Murray’s car was oncoming.

Dotlin Taylor of Jamesburg told police on Sept. 16 that he returned to his car parked in a lot on Route 27 to find that someone had apparently hit the vehicle on the driver’s side, near the rear tire.

Sonal Desai of Monroe was cited for careless driving Sept. 16 after the car she was driving rear-ended an auto driven on Cedar Grove Lane by Vikram Prabhakar of Kendall Park.

Prabhakar told police that he was moving slowly in traffic when his car was hit. Desai said she accelerated when she saw the car ahead of hers move, tried to stop but hit it.

A careless driving citation went to Ali Mansour of Somerset Sept. 16 after he was involved in an auto accident on Amwell Road, near Cedar Grove Lane.

Mansour told police that he was making a left turn from Amwell into Resta’s Shell station when his car was hit by one driven by Biannalys Otero of Somerset. Otero said she was traveling down Amwell in the right lane when Mansour’s car turned right in front of hers.

A car driven by Rebecca Mathew of Somerset was slowing down for traffic on Cedar Grove Lane Sept. 17 when it was rear-ended by one driven by Ashok Chaudhary, also of Somerset.

Chaudhary told police that traffic suddenly slowed and he was not able to stop in time.
