Police Log: Nov. 11-12, 2013

Nov. 11

Marwan Eid of East Brunswick told police that he’d parked his car on Dahmer Road the night before, and when he returned to it several hours later, noticed that someone had struck it on the driver’s side.

Vanessa Vargas of Bound Brook was cited fro driving without a license after her car was involved in an accident with one driven by Oba Simmonds of Somerset. Simmonds said he was traveling down South Middlebush Road, behind Vargas’ car, when Vargas stopped suddenly. Simmonds said he could not avoit striking Vargas’ car in the rear.

The same officer who investigated the prior accident witnessed another at the same spot. A car driven down South Middlebush Road by Linda Olson of Morristown struck the rear of a car driven by Phani Kovi of Monmouth Junction while Kovi was slowing for traffic. The impact forced Kovi’s car into the rear of one driven by David Lombardo of Monmouth Junction.

Someone scratched a smiley face into the rear quarter panel of a car owned by a Reler Avenue resident. The resident told police it happened sometime between Nov. 9 and Nov. 11.

Lisa Jensen of Somerset was pulling into a parking spot in the lot at 435 Elizabeth Avenue when her car struck a shopping cart, police said. The cart then struck a car driven by William Tybor of Somerset while Tybor was backing into a spot opposite Jensen’s.

Barun Kanungo of Belle Mead told police that he was driving on Bunker Hill Road when a deer suddenly appeared in the road. Kanungo said he swerved to avoid the deer, but ended up hitting it and a fence as well.

Two officers used their fire extinguishers to put out a small fire in a Baier Avenue home. The homeowner told police that a cooking pan caught fire, and spread to part of the kitchen. The family was allowed back into the house after the fire was out.

Nov. 12

Cars driven by Joseph Mastorio of Cliffwood Beach and Santa Gomez of Somerset collided at Easton Avenue and Landing Lane. Gomez said she was entering the intersection on Easton Ave. when Mastorio’s car made a left turn on Landing Lane into hers. Mastorio said Gomez ran a red traffic light, but Gomez said the light was yellow.

Melvyn Melgar-Santos of Maryland was cited for careless driving, driving with an expired touring privilege, failure to report change of address, failure to use an appropriate child restraint system and driving without insurance after he was involved in an accident on Somerset Street. Melgar-Santos told police he was driving behind a car driven by Stephanie Hussain of Monroe when Hussain suddenly turned left onto Home Street, leaving him no time to stop.

Genevevo Marin-Mendez of New Brunswick was cited for careless driving after a car he was driving was involved in an accident with one driven by Alexa DiMartino of Hillsborough. DiMartino told police she was traveling down Hamilton Street when Marin-Mendez pulled out from Berry Street in front of her car.

Saloni Gupta of Somerset was cited for careless driving after a car she was driving struck one driven by Meredith Kollmer, also of Somerset, on Hamilton Street. Kollmer said she was slowing down to make a right turn onto Old Hamilton Street when her car was struck from behind by Gupta’s.
