Robin Glover-Schenck of Kendall Park told police that she had pulled over to the right side of Hamilton Street, near Norma Avenue, and started to make a U-turn when her car struck one driven by Wayne Bullock of Somerset. Glover-Schenck said she did not see Bullock’s car, which was traveling in the left lane.

A car driven by Nataly Rodriguez of Hillsborough was stopped for the traffic light at Amwell Road and DeMott Lane when it was rear-ended by one driven by Isley Serrano, also of Hillsborough. Serrano said he did not notice that Rodriguez’s car was stopped.

Cars driven by Ernestine Singh of North Brunswick and Shabana Faruqi of Piscataway collided in a parking lot at 1731 Route 27. Faruqi said she’d already backed her car out of a space when Singh’s car backed into it.Singh said both cars were backing out at the same time, and that Faruqi’s car struck hers.

Priyam Patel of Colonia told police that she thought she had cleared traffic on Amwell Road when she tried to cross over from Olcott to Charles streets, but her car collided with one driven on Amwell by Clara McKnight of Hillsborough. McKnight said Patel’s car pulled out it front of hers, and she could not avoid the crash.

Johanna Nunez of Somerset was cited for careless driving after her car rear-ended one on Worlds Fair Drive driven by Li Zhou of East Brunswick. Zhou said he was stopped for pedestrians when his car was struck. Nunez said she could not stop in time to avoid the accident.

Dec. 22, 2013

An Amethyst Way resident told police that a man reached into her car’s open trunk and stole her purse while she was cleaning out the auto. The woman described the man as being black, tall, skinny, and wearing blue jeans, a black sweater and a yellow cap. The victim said the purse was worth $150.

Blair Brygier of Manville told police that he was just starting to accelerate his car in traffic when it was rear-ended by a car driven by Abigail Bickel of Skillman. Bickel said the traffic was “stop-and-go,” and that she could not stop in time to avoid the accident.

There were no injuries when an oven caught fire in a Hamilton Street home, police said. The homeowner told police that he’d doused the fire with his fire extinguisher. The home’s gas line was secured and the over was removed, police said. Community Fire Company and East Franklin Fire Company responded.

Dec. 23, 2013

A car driven by Patricia Bloise of Somerset was turning left  from 1583 Route 27 when it struck a car traveling on Rt. 27, driven by Jesus Romero of New Brunswick. Bloise told police that she thought she had cleared traffic, and Romero’s car seemed to have “come out of nowhere.”

Lorna Castaneda of Somerset was backing her car out of a Medici Drive driveway when it struck a parked car owned by Allison Mednick of Springfield.
