Bridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots (45-23) defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish (22-47) 7-1 Saturday evening from TD Bank Ballpark in front of a crowd of 8,153.
In the bottom of the first inning right fielder Luis Montanez slugged a home run (9) to give the Patriots an early 1-0 advantage.
Bridgeport evened the contest at 1-1 in the top of the fifth as shortstop Mike Richard sliced a RBI single.
Somerset grabbed a 6-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Patriots plated five runs on six hits all with two outs. Catcher Adam Donachie drilled a three run home run (5), while center fielder Jonny Tucker and first baseman Brian Barden tallied RBI singles.
The Patriots added another run in the bottom of the seventh inning when third baseman Corey Smith hammered a home run (7) to make the score 7-1 which would be the final.
Matt Langwell (4-6) earned the win tossing six innings while allowing three hits and one run. Matt Iannazzo (2-3) suffered the loss as he hurled 5.2 innings while giving up six runs on 12 hits.
