Patriots Top Blue Crabs 3-2

52514grBridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 3-2 at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday afternoon.

The Patriots took a 1-0 lead in the first on an error that allowed Eddy Martinez-Esteve to reach first safely.

Somerset added two runs in the second on an RBI single by Nate Spears and a balk that brought home Jonny Tucker for a 3-0 lead.

Southern Maryland cut the lead to 3-2 with two runs in the top of the sixth on a Jake Opitz fielder’s choice and error on the play.

Patriots starter Brett Brach (1-0) picked up the win in his Somerset debut, allowing just two hits in five scoreless innings pitched. Blue Crabs starter Ryan Hinson (0-3) suffered the loss, allowing three runs-two earned-on two hits in five innings pitched. Jon Hunton earned his seventh save of the season.

The 2014 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Monday afternoon with a 1:05 pm game against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs.
