Patriots Swat Skeeters 9-1

Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots (14-6) defeated the Sugar Land Skeeters (15-6) 9-1 at TD Bank Ballpark on Tuesday evening.

The Patriots took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on RBI base hits by Julio Borbon and Mike Fransoso.

The Patriots exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Fransoso starting the scoring with an RBI single before Alex Castellanos drove a two-run double to right field two batters later. Aaron Dudley then hit a sacrifice fly, Alfredo Rodriguez had an RBI single, Julio Borbon plated a run on a fielder’s choice, and an RBI single by Endy Chavez made the score 9-0.

“It was nice to put some crooked numbers on the board for us after a lot of one run games,” said Fransoso, who finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI. “It was nice to string some hits together 1-through-9 there. That was good for the team and we’ll just try to build from that.”

The Skeeters lone run came in the top of the ninth inning on an RBI fielder’s choice by Alvaro Rondon for the 9-1 final.

Trevor Foss (1-1) picked up the win with five scoreless innings and six strikeouts. Brett Marshall (1-1) suffered the loss, allowing two runs-one earned- on four hits in six innings pitched.
