Patriots Shut Out Skeeters 2-0

Bridgewater, NJ-   The Somerset Patriots (17-8) shut out the Sugar Land Skeeters (14-11) 2-0 behind six scoreless innings by David Kubiak (2-2) on Tuesday evening at TD Bank Ballpark.

Kubiak tied a team season high nine strikeouts and scattered just two hits over his six innings of work.

“I was throwing strikes. I threw a lot of changeups, which were working good,” said Kubiak. “Keeping them off-balance is pretty big for me and getting ahead of guys. I don’t think I got behind many guys so I was very happy with tonight.”

All of the scoring took place in the first inning. Olmo Rosario drove in the first run on a fielder’s choice and Carlos Guzman later gave the Patriots a 2-0 lead with an RBI single to left field.

Kyler Newby, Justin Wright and Ronnie Shaban all threw a scoreless inning of relief. Shaban earned his second save of the season, striking out two batters in the ninth.

Jake Hale (3-1) took the loss, giving up two runs (one earned) on seven hits in a complete game effort.

The 2017 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Wednesday with a Day-Night Double Header against the Sugar Land Skeeters at 11:05 am and 7:05 pm.  For tickets, visit www.somersetpatriots.com.
