Patriots Hammer Out 9-2 Win Over Ducks

gamerecapupdate42614Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots defeated the Long Island Ducks 9-2 at TD Bank Ballpark on Saturday night.

 

The Patriots jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. After Jonny Tucker doubled to lead off the game, Nate Spears singled him home to start the scoring. Luis Montanez followed with an RBI double to plate Spears and later scored on an RBI single by Ty Wright.

 

Somerset added two runs in the second after Tucker scored on an error following a single by Spears. Dennis Raben’s RBI single drove home Spears for a 5-0 lead.

 

The Patriots opened up the game with four more runs in the bottom of the third inning, highlighted by RBI doubles by Tucker and Montanez.

 

The Ducks got on the board with two runs in the top of the sixth inning on a two-run single by Ryan Strieby that made the score 9-2.

 

Patriots starter Matt Maloney (1-0) picked up the win, allowing two runs on five hits in 5.2 innings pitched. Shaun Garceau (0-1) suffered the loss for the Ducks, allowing nine earned runs on 11 hits in 2.1 innings pitched.

 

The 2014 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue at home on Sunday with a 1:05 pm game against the Long Island Ducks. The game includes Kids Opening Day with a Sunday Autograph Session presented by Somerset County Park Foundation and all Kids Run The Bases in The Beez Foundation Diamond Derby after the game.
