Patriots Fall Short To Skeeters In Extra Innings

Bridgewater, NJ- The Sugar Land Skeeters (23-12) defeated the Somerset Patriots (20-13) 3-2 in ten innings at TD Bank Ballpark on Tuesday evening.

The Skeeters broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the tenth inning on a sacrifice fly by Courtney Hawkins to take the 3-2 lead.

“We had some really good opportunities and just didn’t get it done,” said Somerset Patriots manager Brett Jodie. “You have to give credit to the pitching staffs of both teams. They’re a good team over there too. They just got that sacrifice fly before we did. We just need to find a way to get that one big hit in those situations.”

The Skeeters got an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by Kyle Kubitza.

Somerset struck to take the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning on a two-run single by Danny Dorn that made the score 2-1.

A Colin Walsh RBI single in the top of the sixth inning knotted up the ball game at 2-2.

Felipe Paulino (2-0) picked up the win with 1.1 innings pitched and three strikeouts. Dustin Antolin (0-2) suffered the loss, allowing a run on a hit in an inning pitched.

The 2018 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home with a Day-Night Double Header against the Sugar Land Skeeters on Wednesday, June 6th at 11:05 am and 7:05 pm. For tickets, visit www.somersetpatriots.com.
