Patriots Crush Blue Crabs 9-1

52614grBridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 9-1 at TD Bank Ballpark on Monday afternoon.

The Blue Crabs took a 1-0 lead on a solo home run by C.J. Ziegler (6) in the top of the fourth inning.

Somerset answered with a home run by Ty Wright (2) in the bottom of the frame to tie up the game 1-1.

The Patriots took the lead in the fifth inning on a single by Aharon Eggleston with an error on the play that plated a run and a second run on a double play for a 3-1 lead.

The Patriots added a run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by Eddy Martinez-Esteve for a 4-1 advantage.

A Nate Spears RBI double scored another run for Somerset in the bottom of the seventh. Corey Smith then drove in Spears with an RBI double and a 6-1 lead.

Somerset extended the lead with three more runs in the eighth on an RBI single by Eggleston, a bases loaded walk by Jonny Tucker, and an RBI fielder’s choice by Spears for the 9-1 final.

Patriots starter Gary Moran (1-2) picked up a complete game win, allowing just one run on five hits and five strikeouts. Blue Crabs starter Gaby Hernandez (0-2) suffered the loss, allowing four runs on six hits in six innings pitched.
