Patriots Complete Sweep Of Ducks

4-24-16 Matt Fields HRBridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots completed the four-game sweep of the Long Island Ducks with a 6-1 win at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday afternoon.

The Patriots jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. After red-hot Trayvon Robinson led off with a double, Matt Fields launched a two-run home run (1) to deep center field. An RBI single by Scott Kelly later in the inning gave Somerset a three-run lead.

“I got to see a few pitches and time him up. I told myself not to try to do too much and to just believe in my ability. I made solid contact and hit it out,” said Fields.

The Ducks got on the board in the top of the second on a solo home run by Dan Lyons (1) that cut the lead to 3-1.

A sacrifice fly off the bat of Eric Farris in the bottom of the frame extended the lead to 4-1.

Kelly drove in two more runs later in the game on a fielder’s choice in the fifth and an RBI single in the eighth. Kelly finished the game 3-for-4 with three RBI.

“It feels good. Hitting is contagious. Everybody’s producing in the lineup up and down and all picking up each other. Everybody gets the opportunity and passes it to the next guy and that’s been our mentality. Whatever it takes to help the team win,” Kelly said.

Scott McGregor (1-0) picked up the win, allowing just one run on four hits in five innings pitched. Jack Snodgrass (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing four earned runs on seven hits in four innings pitched.

“You know [The Ducks] are going to be a quality opponent every time we play them so we were fortunate to win all four. I really like how we came out every day very business-like from the first pitch to the end. We were taking advantage of situations, being aggressive, got timely hitting and pretty good pitching. Just a complete effort and a very good start to the season,” said Somerset Patriots manager Brett Jodie.

The 2016 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford continues on Tuesday, April 26th with a 7:05 pm game against the York Revolution. For tickets visit www.somersetpatriots.com.
