Park Commission Seeking Bocce Teams

Teams in the Somerset County Spring Adult Bocce League are now being formed. Play is at Colonial Park.

The Somerset County Park Commission has announced that the 8th annual Spring Adult Bocce League will begin play at the Colonial Park Bocce Courts at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7.

The League is open to all adults age 18 and over. League play will be on Tuesday evenings at 6 p.m. Teams of two players will compete through Tuesday, June 25, concluding with playoffs and the League Championship.

Play will take place at the eight permanent professional grade Bocce Courts located at Colonial Park Parking Lot F off Mettlers Road in Somerset.

Teams may register by calling the Park Commission at 908-722-1200, ext. 5226. There is no registration fee.

The Adult Bocce League plays a six-week summer season followed by a week of playoffs. The season culminates with a Championship Match and picnic dinner for all participants at the Colonial Park bocce facility.

Bocce is a relaxed but strategic game that gained popularity with the influx of Italian immigrants at the turn of the 20th century. It is a calming, competitive way to spend time outdoors in the pleasant company of friends.
