O’Sullivan Leads Patriots with Complete Game

Waldorf, Maryland – The Somerset Patriots (14-22, 56-50) finished off the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (19-17, 44-61) 7-0, powered by a complete game shutout from Liam O’Sullivan on Sunday afternoon at Regency Furniture Stadium.

O’Sullivan went toe-to-toe with Atlantic League veteran Daryl Thompson who held the Patriots off the scoreboard until the fourth inning.

Will Kengor began the fourth with a double and two batters later, Edwin Espinal drove him in with a single up the middle.

Then in the eighth, Justin Pacchioli launched a one out triple to center field. It was Espinal again, who collected the RBI on a single to left field.

In the ninth inning, the Patriots offense piled it on when they scored five runs to make it a 7-0 game. Teodoro Martinez (3) powered a two-run home run to left field. With two outs, Espinal (5) followed suit with a three-run bomb over the Mini Monster in left.

After O’Sullivan (4-7) allowed two hits in the first inning he settled in allowing just one additional hit in the contest. The right-hander walked two and struck out seven in the complete game performance.

Daryl Thompson (13-7) takes the tough luck loss after pitching seven innings and allowing just one run on four hits.

The 2019 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford continues with four games on the road against the Long Island Ducks before the team returns home on Friday, August 23 to host the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs.
