In Your Opinion: Galtieri Will Make Thoughtful, Caring Township Councilman

By Bill Connell, Somerset.

Driving down Elizabeth Avenue I saw a Will Galtieri sign, he is running for council. It put me on a train of thought: The average age of a politician around here is probably 55. William is slightly younger. I got to wondering what it really means and I concluded nothing in the case of William.

At 53 , I am starting to reap the rewards of hard work. I am not talking about wealth. I am talking about watching my children grow up and become real human beings. News flash for all you 40-something parents, losing their minds; it gets better eventually, way better!

With the awareness of what I have accomplished comes the awareness of the burden to allow younger people to grow. At what point do you stop teaching and just hand over the keys to the car? I have had many people in my life like that and I am grateful. I once went into my boss at the time, Robert Kashan, to ask a question. All he said was “You know what to do, just go do it.” I walked out of his office and thought , “Yes, Yes I do.” This was a great professional day.

Without digging up the local past, age does not always imply wisdom. In the case of Will Galtieri, what he lacks in time on Earth he will make up with thoughtfulness and caring. He may not have all the answers or play pickle ball, but I know for sure he will stop and think. That’s all you can ask.
